French food,
especially
Paris bistro
food, is
great. The
sauces, the
flavors and
the fresh
food is
memorable.
Le Saint
Tropez
On King
Street West,
is better
forgotten.
On our
recent
Tuesday
night visit,
their first
mistake was
offering
stale
Portuguese
bread (and
they claim
their chef
is from
France?)
Our escargot
was served
in a brown
gravy that
tasted like
it was made
that
morning.
The French
onion soup
had the
flavor of
Lipton's
onion soup.
The mains
were also
uninspiring.
Greek town
does a
better job
with lamb
chops (and
for a lot
less than
$20) and the
chicken
stuffed with
cheese and
spinach was
acceptable,
but its
accompaniment
of the
cheapest
root
vegetables
found in
this country
was a
disappointment.
Some fresh
greens or
salad would
be a lot
healthier.
The Crème
Caramel
dessert was
acceptable,
but not
great.
With tax and
tip,
including 1
draft bear
and glass of
red wine,
the bill was
over $90.
This would
be
reasonable
if the food
was good but
with the
poor quality
of
ingredients
and
uninspired
preparation,
Le Saint
Tropez
represents
poor value.
It's
understandable
why a staff
member
always seems
to be
outside the
restaurant
trying to
beckon poor
unsuspecting
customers
inside.
