Scaramouche
has been a Toronto institution for 30 years and some of
Toronto's best chefs (Jamie Kennedy, Michael Stadtlander etc.) have apprenticed at this location.
The setting is unique, located at the luxurious Benvenuto
condos, south of St. Clair Avenue, just west off Avenue Road,
the restaurant sits on top of the hill overlooking Toronto.
This setting is very "Arthur Erickson" incorporating clean straight
lines and fine traditional modern furniture. Service is the best in
Toronto. There
are two sections to this restaurant, the first being the more formal
"Scaramouche"
and the second being the more casual "The Grill".
Scaramouche is priced like most
Toronto five Star restaurants with
salads and hors d'oeuvres in the $13.00 - $22.00+ range and the
mains in the $32.00 - $48.00+ range. The The Grill is a relative
bargain, while the hors d'oeuvres and salads are pricey, but very good,
the mains are an excellent value,
priced at about $22.00+ dollars. In either restaurant, we recommend
their famous Coconut Cream Pie. (12.00 dollars)
Two people
can visit the The Grill and spend about $130.00 dollars with
wine, pasta, a shared desert and valet parking. Two
can also easily spend over $300.00 dollars at Scaramouche. In
either case, they will be getting
good value for Toronto.
Rumor is that unless Toronto's Condo bubble bursts,
Scaramouche may be turned into a condo - great city, Toronto!
