Many Torontonians of Italian heritage
will think a restaurant review of the Villa Colombo dining room (Restaurant
Boccaccio & Café Cinquecento) is ridiculous in that most know about,
and have dined in, this fine Italian Restaurant at least once.
Unfortunately not everybody in Toronto knows about this great little
private, but "open to the public", restaurant.
The restaurant is located in the Italian
cultural center (Columbus Centre) at Lawrence and Keele. There is
plenty of free on site parking and the restaurant itself, while slightly
below ground level, is nicely decorated in the traditional Italian
style, with white tablecloths and it offers formal yet friendly service.
The menu features a delightful variety of traditional Italian
appetizers and starters including a delicious Caesar salad with fresh
shaved Parmesan, and a large selection of excellent pasta, delicate
seafood and veal dishes.
Our lunch was about $40 including tax
and tip with a Pasta at about $9.00 dollars and veal at about $12.50.
Dinners are little more expensive, so two should expect to spend around
$80 depending on the wines selected. They do have an extensive selection
of fine wines so it's quite easy to spend a lot more, but generally the
prices are quite similar to any better Italian restaurant.
This is an excellent choice for a
business lunch if you have a meeting in the Northwest part of Toronto.
Many of Toronto's business leaders entertain important clients in this
dining room on a regular basis, counting on consistently good food,
service and the right ambience.
