Spring Rolls Restaurant in Toronto - An inconsistent choice.
Spring Rolls located on Yonge Street just south of Bloor and on Front Street east, between Jarvis Street and Church Street, is an interesting Asian fusion restaurant -- little bit of Chinese, a little bit of Vietnamese and little bit of Thai.
We were first introduced on a bright Saturday afternoon when they were handing out free samples, and the food was so good we had to go in. They were offering lunch specials, including soup, ranging from $7 to $9. The soup was spicy, but excellent, and the main courses of beef and shrimp -- were also good.
Our second visit was extremely disappointing. The lunch specials that we ordered tasted like they were prepared hours before, reminding us of a poor Chinese buffet. It was raining that day and the restaurant was quiet, but there was absolutely no excuse for such poor food quality. My friends shrimp dish, with four medium-size shrimp, was parched and uninspiring. My chicken with pineapple on rice tasted like dry chicken fried rice from a package prepared three hours before.
Because of this recent visit, we have changed our rating for this restaurant from four stars to two &1/2 stars. In fairness, any restaurant can have a bad day and we arrived towards the end of lunch. Hopefully, their regular menu is better, but after our most recent experience, we aren't sure whether we are going to try it again.
